Real Madrid Move for Man United Wonderkid JJ Gabriel: Salary, Bonuses and Signing Fee to Beat Barcelona, Bayern and PSG
According to Sky Germany, Real Madrid are preparing a big financial offer for Manchester United teenager JJ Gabriel, with a free transfer in January targeted once he receives a Cypriot passport.
Real Madrid are making a serious move for Manchester United teenager JJ Gabriel, 15, according to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany. The report speaks of an offer including salary, bonuses and a high signing-on fee to beat Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, with a free transfer in January the target. There is no official announcement from any party.
The story in brief
- Real Madrid are preparing an offer covering salary, bonuses and a signing fee, per Sky Germany.
- The player is expected to receive a Cypriot passport, making him an EU citizen able to move within Europe.
- A free transfer in January is the stated target.
- Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG are also interested.
- He turns 16 on 6 October 2026, and nothing has been confirmed officially.
Who is JJ Gabriel?
JJ Gabriel is a young forward in Manchester United’s academy, described as the club’s youngest-ever Under-18 player when he debuted at 14. British outlets report 26 goals and four assists in 29 games last season and the Premier League Under-18 Player of the Season award.
Sky Sports says he is contracted to United until the end of the season. Reports say his father is former Republic of Ireland international Joe O’Cearuill and his mother is Cypriot, which explains talk of Irish and Cypriot passports.
Why does the Cypriot passport matter?
FIFA rules restrict international transfers of players under 18, with exceptions that include moves within the EU or European Economic Area for players aged 16 to 18. That is why the passport is linked to a possible move to Spain, Germany or France, subject to approval by the relevant bodies.
Reports also say he cannot sign a professional contract until he turns 17, but after his 16th birthday he can join a new club’s academy.
How did we get here?
Per Sky Sports, the player and his family asked for his registration to be cancelled after United’s Youth League win over Sabah on 11 September 2026, in which he scored a hat-trick. He has not trained with United since and was absent from England’s youth squad named on 18 September.
Spanish outlet Sport, as relayed by Football365, reported he has decided to leave and that United accepted it, naming Barcelona as his preferred destination. Other reports say Real Madrid lead. Fabrizio Romano had earlier clarified there were no direct talks between the player and Barcelona.
Manchester United’s position
United manager Michael Carrick said everyone must be careful and think of the player away from exposure and scrutiny. Analyst Paul Merson called Gabriel an unbelievable talent and said losing him would be a massive blow.
What is confirmed and what is not?
Confirmed: his age, his place in United’s academy and his approaching 16th birthday. Reported: Real Madrid’s offer, the Cypriot passport, the January free transfer and the deregistration request. Unconfirmed: his final destination, as reports split between Real Madrid and Barcelona, and the size of any offer.
What next?
Clarity should come after his 16th birthday on 6 October and as the January window approaches. We will update this article if anything is announced officially.
